Welcome From The Head
Welcome To LBIS

I am very pleased to be able to welcome you all to Le Bocage International School (LBIS) website. We have recently updated our website and I hope that whether you are an existing student, Alumni, parent, member of staff or whether you just wish to find out more about the school, that you find the website interesting and informative. We have also set up our very own Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/lebocageinternationalschool) providing a forum for the LBIS community to communicate and follow the goings-on within the school.

LBIS has been a Council of International Schools (CIS) accredited school since November 2005, recently reaccredited in 2014, with flying colours. LBIS combines a demanding academic curriculum with an active and engaging programme of sports, cultural and performing arts activities. Our students consistently perform well in such challenging programmes as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (the results in 2014 were our best yet), consistently higher than the world average. Our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), a world recognized programme for students aged 11 – 16, continues to grow in strength and our current Form 5 cohort demonstrated this with some exceptional Personal Projects.

Our vision is to be a leading school providing a holistic and high quality international education and our mission is to provide, through the medium of English, quality secondary education based on the principles of intercultural awareness and international understanding. The school promotes mutual respect, ethical behavior and personal commitment. We aim to meet the individual needs of a wide range of students and prepare them to be responsible, caring and principled citizens.

In what promises to be a very exciting year, Bocage has much too forward to it. Our new Performing Arts & Language Lab Building is fully operational, as we seek to promote the creative and linguistic skills of our student body. We will also be implementing the 5th and final year of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), making us a complete IB World School. This comes after our very successful visit from the IB Organization (IBO) back in October. 2015 is also the year that marks our 25th Anniversary. From a small house in Quarter Bornes, to the wonderful campus in Moka, we have come a long way!

We saw a significant increase in student intake in most of the forms last year, many of whom came from outside of Mauritius, bringing our population to just under 600. As an international school having this melting pot of international students is a great asset to the school and it is one that we hope to take full advantage of. Internationalism permeates through our curriculum from Form 1 – 7. However, we would also like to celebrate the cultural mix outside of the classroom and encourage a greater awareness, understanding and appreciation for the various cultures we have within the school.

On a personal note, I believe one of the most striking features of the LBIS community is its friendliness and the wonderful welcome we extend to new students and parents. I encourage you to visit us and to see first-hand our facilities and meet our teaching staff and to experience the atmosphere at the school.
